Get your weekend off to a rockin’ Montréal start this Friday with The Nocturnes at the Musée d’art contemporain.
What’s a nocturne, you ask? Well, the first Friday of every month, the MAC hosts a 5 à 9 (think of it as a prolonged, but chic, happy hour), replete with live music, bar service and entry to the museum’s exhibitions. Currently, the Québec Triennial, an exhibition devoted to contemporary Québec art, is on display in all of the galleries.
Some of the most talented artists from Montréal’s music scene have performed at the MAC as part of this multidisciplinary happening—DJ Champion, We Are Wolves, Martin Tétrault and many more. This Friday, the Montréal quartet Creature will be adding its blend of hip hop, dance and new wave to the ambiance. It’s first come, first served, with a capacity of 700, but if you want to see the band perform on stage instead of watching them on the giant video screen, you’re advised to get there early.
The Nocturnes takes a break for the summer, but they’ll be back this fall with a line-up you won’t want to miss. The performers remain a secret, but we’re pretty sure they’ll be a tie-in with the MAC’s upcoming October exhibition, Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll since 1967. Get out the air guitar and start practicing your riffs!
