BOO! Halloween in Montréal is a scream!

September 12, 2014 When All Hallow’s Eve comes ‘round, Montréal comes alive with all sorts of spooky – and not-so-spooky – activities for ghosts and goblins of all ages!

Pumpkins, squash et al
Are your little monsters dressed and ready? Head out to The Great Pumpkin Ball (October 3 to 31) at the Montréal Botanical Garden and feast your eyes on over 800 decorated squashes in the company of Esmeralda the witch and her feline Abracadabra. Kids can also try their hand at Halloween Origami in the Japanese Garden and play in the Little Monsters Courtyard.

This year, how about spending Halloween at the Museum? At Pointe‑à‑Callière, Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History, Jack O’Lantern will take you on an unusual and slightly spooky tour of the cultural origins of Halloween and associated beliefs (October 19, 20, 26 and 27).

This October, why not pick a peck of... pumpkins! Squashes in all their glory will be on display in the Governor's Garden of the Château Ramezay from September 13 to November 2. On our plates, in our beauty products, in our home décor, these gourds are everywhere. Intrigued? Indeed!

Searching for that perfect pumpkin? The undisputed emblem of Halloween and other squashes will fill produce stands at the Jean-Talon and Atwater markets. Take the kids for a stroll through the stalls, where they will love picking their own gourds to carve out.

Scream your heart out
What would the scariest night of the year be without a few blood-curdling screams? Halloween FrightFest at La Ronde will supply that and more every weekend from October 4 to November 2 (as well as October 13) when zombies, monsters and spooks rise to roam once again! The Maison Rouge, an all-new haunted labyrinth, invites you to a terrifying experience at every turn. Once inside, your only wish just might be to escape!

Up for a Special Halloween Ghost Hunt? For four scary nights, ghosts will take over Old Montréal. During Fantômes Montréal’s spooky evenings, seek out New France witches, victims and criminals... good and evil alike, they'll share the chilling story of their life and death with you (October 25, 26, 30 and 31)!

Chills and thrills
Finally, if you don’t believe that Halloween is only for kids, then frights, chills and thrills await you in many bars and restaurants across the island hosting ghoulishly fun parties, such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Ball (October 31 to November 2). Make sure to get all dressed up on those special nights. You might just win a prize for best costume.

Happy Halloween!
