Three contemporary art addresses

January 7, 2014 ─ L’Arsenal – An industrial marvel housing contemporary art in Griffintown
Likened to an industrial version of a cathedral nave, this impressive century-old space formerly functioned as a shipyard. Currently abuzz with arts and culture fans instead of shipbuilders, the mammoth complex features two galleries displaying impressive contemporary collections. Composed of over 40,000 square feet of space, L’Arsenal’s main artery is a spectacular 22,000-square-foot hall which is now home to some of Montréal’s most prestigious events such as Montréal Fashion Week and the Mois de la photo. With so much on offer, one should consider L’Arsenal as the latest place to visit religiously.

Art Actuel 2-22 – A must-see downtown visual and media arts centre
Reigning over the corner of Sainte-Catherine Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles is a unique glass-covered building that is the home of Art Actuel 2-22, a contemporary gallery uniting several organizations essential to the promotion and distribution of Québec art. Among the organizations that have taken up residence at 2-22 are: Artexte; VOX, centre de l’image contemporaine; and the Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec (RCAAQ). Visitors will also find Format – a specialized bookstore dedicated to contemporary art, and a space for research. An ecosystem of creativity and resources, 2-22 is a rich centre of discovery for all. Access is free.

PHI Centre: A powerhouse centre for the arts in the Old Port
Open since the first of June, PHI Centre is much more than an exhibit space as it also serves as a versatile venue for launches, conferences, performances, screenings and concerts. The four-story complex is housed in two historic buildings in Old Montréal and includes creation facilities and production studios, performance-art venues and -media labs – making PHI an inspiring one-stop centre for contemporary art. The creativity continues with an in-house restaurant with rooftop terrace offering an artistic menu that draws2-22 on local products.
