April 19, 2010 - Come May, this UNESCO City of Design is throwing open its doors and inviting y’all to come on in! The Design Montréal Open House, now in its 4th year, is a city-wide, multi-disciplinary open house that puts our designers and architects at the forefront: over ninety agencies, projects and Montréal design centres will be open to the public for two full days – May 1 and May 2 – to showcase Montréal’s incredible design talent.
If you think that this event is just about taking in a few exhibitions or looking at a building or two, then you’ve got another thing coming! The programme is just as varied and creative as the work that is featured: join in on thematic Montréal walkabouts, engage in scintillating shop-talk with artists and industry professionals, listen to the rhythm of this phenomenal city in an entirely new way, get acquainted with Montréal’s award-winning parks and urban spaces, discover exciting new design talent and enjoy exhibitions presented by university grads and world-renown designers alike. You can even get your kids involved: the event features a fun, educational program targeted to budding designers and architects aged 10 years and older.
A definite must-see event is the exhibition/performance at the Société des arts technologiques (SAT) on Saturday, May 1 at 5 PM, where nine celebrated designers will create something unique and fabulous before your very eyes! These designers have been especially invited to participate in this unusual and exciting event because of their commitment to artisanal practices and development of their medium.
