Montreal Chamber Music Festival

We Recommend

April 5, 2010 – For fans of chamber music, the Montréal Chamber Music Festival is a can’t- miss on their musical calendar.

That’s because the festival’s Founding Director, Dennis Brott, and his team have been delivering the crème de la crème of chamber music for now 15 years.

When Brott first envisioned this fest, he sought to demystify chamber music and make it accessible to as many people as possible. Since then, he and his team have cultivated some truly impressive collaborations with art forms that include word, dance, visual art and other musical genres.

For the 2010 edition, three nights will be dedicated to the music of Robert Schumann, and will include pre-concert discussions. Also this year, the Afiara String Quartet, from the prestigious Juilliard School, will be the festival’s resident quartet, giving three master classes for stringed instrument players and university- or conservatory-level chamber musicians.

Chamber music with jazz? It’s just another one of the many melodious partnerships that have sprung out of the festival. This year, jazz will be featured every Friday of the festival, while nearly every other day of the week will be set aside to soak up classical music. And on May 9, everyone is invited to meet luthiers and bow makers as part of the Bow Makers of America event.

True to chamber music’s cozy character, the organizers have kept the fest’s venues intimate, choosing sweet spots like the St. James United Church at the heart of downtown (the festival’s main site), the Chalet de la montagne at the top of Mount Royal and the Sala Rossa cabaret on Saint-Laurent Boulevard.

Don’t miss the chance to be part of this inspiring event this May!
