Published on October 7, 2009 – Wall flowers? Not at all! Serious? I don’t think so! Unless you mean serious about jazz, good times, good food, good friends and new experiences, of course. Then you’re talking about Montréalers, who love to celebrate, be warm and hospitable hosts, and share (numerous!) experiences. And for that, there is no lack of opportunity here.
From the Festival International de Jazz de Festival that has become, over the years, one of the largest international festivals of its kind, to the Just For Laughs Festival, which plays host to the most talented comedians on the planet, Montréal’s social calendar is jam-packed with prestigious events attended by hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic festival-goers each year.
A little less known, but by no means less vibrant, is the International des Feux Loto-Québec, a musical fireworks competition featuring la crème de la crème of pyrotechnists from around the world to light up Montréal’s summer night sky. The principle is simple: each participating country coordinates a magnificent show of fireworks to music, ranging from classical masterpieces to jazz standards to disco to techno to pop. Needless to mention, this show is met with thunderous approval.
Just as colourful, but enhanced with local and international flavours, are the activities on the menu of the MONTRÉAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival that will celebrate its 11th edition this coming February. Gastronomy, performing arts and fireworks are featured in this one-of-a-kind winter event, where top international chefs, vintners, master cheese makers, entertainers, DJs, dancers, musicians, singers – you name it - all unite for ten unforgettable days and nights. In particular, the nocturnal mega-party known as the Montréal All-Nighter features over 170 activities across the island to keep you going all night long.
You can look the world over, but you can’t beat Montréal when it comes to festivals!
