August 3, 2012 – Maps turned into lamps, bicycle wheels transformed into booster seats, kitchen utensils becoming candlesticks… Everything is possible at the Monde Ruelle gallery.

Alternative creation and consumption
Founded in 2008 by artists Marie-Claude Parenteau-Lebeuf and Hubert Soucy, this eco-design and furniture oriented art gallery represents some 20 Québec designers. The founders have been going green for a long time and taking pleasure in the hope that products made from recovered materials will find a place in our daily habits of consumption.

The ingenuity of these salvaging champions is admirable and unexpected. Using objects found in the streets and alleyways of Montréal, as well as leftover materials, they create a host of useful and decorative objects each vying for top honours in originality.

Objects with a soul
Surprisingly, their creations borne of discarded works possess an aesthetic beauty as art objects in their own right. Most of the artists here went to fine arts school or were trained in one of the design disciplines. The collection reflects their talent and expertise.

Through a series of thematic exhibitions and events, the Monde Ruelle gallery continues to reach an increasingly wide audience and is even able to offer customized creations. You can run over to the gallery to discover all of its treasures, or, for now, marvel over its fantastic online catalog. Surprises await!
