Published on August 31, 2009 – La TOHU has made a name for itself as a leader in the circus arts, from creation, training and production, right up to, of course, performance. But this cutting-edge centre of creativity doesn’t clown around when it comes to sustainable development. Just recently, it won a Grand Prix du Tourisme Québecois 2009 in the category of Sustainable Tourism.

Home to its own state-of-the-art, purpose-built circus facilities as well as those of the National Circus School, the centre was built on a former quarry and landfill site, with a mission to promoting environmental design and stewardship. It has every intention of turning its site into one of Montréal’s major urban parks, has already become a hub of cultural and economic life for the city and the Saint-Michel neighbourhood.

Inside and out, TOHU (short for “tohu-bohu”, a French expression to describe urban hustle and bustle), is host to a year-round line-up of fun and excitement. From jaw-dropping circus performance to cultural celebrations to eco-responsible fairs, the TOHU proves that can it soar and dream, while still keeping its feet on the ground.
