Described as an “autumn symphony” by musicologist and music critic Claude Rostand, the Fourth Symphony is regarded as the most classical of Brahms’s four symphonies, particularly in terms of its form (the finale, for example, assuming the structure of a chaconne).First-prize winner at the Montreal International Musical Competition in 2004, pianist Serhiy Salov has enjoyed an enviable international career ever since. He’ll demonstrate virtuosity and passion in Liszt’s Second Concerto, a score rich in fireworks. Opening the program, the Orchestra will play the overture and Venusberg music from the Paris version of Wagner’s opera Tannhäuser
