Kent Nagano and the OSM offer Beethoven three times over: the First Symphony, dedicated to the Baron Van Swieten, one of Beethoven’s first protectors in Vienna; the Seventh, perhaps the most endearing of them all thanks to the wealth of themes and its accessibility; and Wellington's Victory, a short piece commemorating the Duke of Wellington’s victory over Napoleon’s forces in Spain. Christian Tetzlaff, the eminent violinist with the “protean ability to take on the character of whatever work he is playing” (The Independent), will perform the Alban Berg Concerto, “to the memory of an angel,” a work that brings a lyrical quality to twelve-tone technique.
