Overview

A “dramatic legend” based on the first version of Goethe’s Faust, La Damnation de Faust remains a sublime work. The action revolves around the trio of Marguerite, Faust and Mephistopheles, whose roles will be performed by mezzo-soprano Ana Caterina Antonacci, winner of the Verdi, Maria Callas and Luciano Pavarotti competitions; Canadian tenor Michael Schade, who since his victory at the New York Oratorio Competition in 1990 has enjoyed a dazzling career; and bass-baritone Philippe Sly, winner of a record number of awards at the 2012 edition of the Montreal International Musical Competition. The OSM and its Chorus will be under the direction of Kent Nagano in a concert designed to celebrate the opening of the Orchestra’s 80th season in grand style.
