Touted by Time magazine as one of the 50 best inventions of 2008, BIXI has been recognized by two large metropolises as the public bike system par excellence. The city of Montréal has even been contracted to implement a version of the bike-share program in Boston and London, England. Unique to North America, this project allows cyclists to explore the island’s 450 kilometers of bike paths, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A 5 dollars access fee is all it takes to borrow a bike at one of 300 stations, for a trip on the fly or as part of your daily routine. The first 30 minutes of your ride – no matter how many trips you make in a day – are always free but an additional fee will be added to each subsequent 30 minutes period. Once you’ve finished your ride, just return your wheels to the nearest station.
