For starters, one of two places: MBCO, a restaurant/bakery on Stanley, which serves up a variety of flavourful omelettes and Viennese pastries; or, Café Vasco da Gama, on Peel, noted for its bagels, croque-matin and Portuguese-style tosta mixta.

 

Then it’s off to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts for the Warhol Live exhibition which explores the role played by music in the signature works of artist Andy Warhol – from Elvis to Marilyn, and from Grace Jones to Mick Jagger.

 

To remain in the groove, make your way over to Hard Rock Café on Crescent and indulge in your choice of steak or hamburger against a decidedly retro backdrop of objects and items of clothing having belonged to the all-time greats of rock music.

 

Hop on the métro and get off at Mont-Royal station. Both Mount Royal and Saint-Denis Streets are alive with second-hand music shops teaming with LPs and CDs, including collector magazines and posters. If you are a poster aficionado, one or both of À l’affiche and Montréal Images are certain to delight. Then set off along Saint-Laurent Boulevard where you will find an abundance of chic, urban accessories in a boutique which goes by the name of M0851.

 

Towards the end of the day, it’s time out at Ex-Centris, on Saint-Laurent. The venue is a multifunction broadcast and image research laboratory which presents the works of filmmakers from across the globe, including productions by the laureates of the world’s leading film festivals.

 

For dinner, pamper yourself with the famed poutine au foie gras – or frites au gras de canard, or perhaps a slice of maple pie, all specialty creations of chef Martin Picard who runs a bistro-style establishment known as Au pied de cochon.

To top off the evening, the Scottish pub Île Noire invites you to discover its impressive selection of some 140 varieties of scotch, rare whiskeys and assortment of local and imported beers in a warm, welcoming décor featuring a mix of mahogany trim and stained glass windows.

 

Pour bien commencer la journée, direction le restaurant-boulangerie MBCO, rue Stanley, où l’on sert une variété de savoureuses omelettes et viennoiseries ou le Café Vasco da Gama, rue Peel, qui propose bagels, croque-matin et tosta mixta, comme au Portugal.

Un saut dans le métro, et vous voilà à la station Mont-Royal. Tant avenue du Mont-Royal que rue Saint-Denis, les boutiques de disques d’occasion foisonnent, et vous pourrez y dénicher vieux vinyles et disques compacts, avec, en prime, des revues et des affiches de collection. Si ces dernières vous intéressent, les boutiques À l’affiche et Montréal Images vous combleront d’aise. Profitez-en aussi pour flâner boulevard Saint-Laurent, où vous trouverez une foule d’accessoires chics, urbains et « made in Montréal » dans la boutique M0851.

 

En fin de journée, une halte à Ex-Centris, boulevard Saint-Laurent, s’impose. À la fois lieu de diffusion multifonctionnelle et laboratoire de recherche sur l’image, on y projette les œuvres d’auteurs des quatre coins du globe comme les films lauréats des plus grands festivals.

 

Il est temps de goûter à la fameuse poutine au foie gras – ou aux frites au gras de canard, ou encore à la tarte à l’érable – du chef Martin Picard, dans l’atmosphère bistro de son restaurant Au pied de cochon.

Pour terminer la soirée, le pub écossais l’Île Noire vous invite à découvrir sa carte de quelque 140 scotchs, ses whiskys rares et son assortiment de bières d’ici et d’ailleurs dans son chaleureux décor tout de boiseries d’acajou et de vitraux.
