Founded following a bequest from James McGill, a Montréal fur trader born in Glasgow, McGill University received its charter from King George IV in 1821. The downtown campus comprises more than 80 buildings on 80 acres of land. In an historic building (2047 Mansfield Street) designed by Percy Nobbs, the University Club of Montréal offers 14 rooms for meetings or wedding receptions.
