Jogging at Olympic Park – Sport and Nature
With its great green spaces and a host of tourist attractions neighbouring top-notch sporting facilities, the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district is best discovered by foot.
Upon exiting the Pie-IX metro station, you will enter the Olympic Park, the main venue of the 1976 Montréal Summer Olympic Games. Take Pierre-Coubertin Avenue right up to the majestic Olympic Stadium, where, at the foot of the tallest inclined tower in the world, you will see a sports complex housing six pools and a multi-sports room.
Wind your way between the movie theatre and the Biodôme – a unique museum that features plants and animals from across the Americas in four distinct habitats – and continue towards the Saputo Stadium, where you might hear the roar of enthusiastic soccer fans as they cheer on the Montréal Impact, the local professional team.
Cross the street and catch your breath at the corner of Viau Street before attacking Parc Maisonneuve. Athletes and outdoor enthusiasts come from far and wide to enjoy the paths and the green space of this 63-hectare park; on any given day, you’ll share the path with skaters, cyclists, runners, strollers, Frisbee fanatics, and picnickers of all ages.
Do you have what it takes to loop around the park twice before getting back on the trail? Go for it – then follow Sherbrooke Street to go back. Unless, you are tempted to take on the 75-hectare Botanical Garden – at a walk, of course – or to discover the amazing insect collection at the Insectarium before heading home.
