Inaugurated in 1918, this impressive building highlighted by colonnades, long held the distinction of being the largest building in the British Empire. At one point, it represented the power of the Anglo-Saxon establishment in Montréal. This Beaux-Arts style building was used as a safe for the gold reserves of a number of European countries and for the jewels of the British Crown during World War II.
