Science, literature, music, painting, architecture, economics, education – the changes turned virtually everything upside down, thanks to Voltaire, Diderot, Schiller, Kant and so many others. The musical portion of the program consists of three pieces assigning most of the work to strings, pieces by French composer François-Joseph Gossec, by Haydn – regarded as the father of the string quartet – and by Mozart. In this last composition the clarinet joins the strings in a work of sublime beauty.
