Overview

A true jewel of Hungary’s musical life, the Budapest Festival Orchestra was founded in 1983 by conductor Iván Fischer and pianist Zoltán Kocsis. Over the years, the orchestra and its conductor have appeared in the great cultural centers of the world, from New York and Hong Kong to Vienna. Sharing the stage with the orchestra will be the Dutch violinist Janine Jansen, who has been regularly invited to perform with the leading international orchestras since her brilliant London debut in 2002 with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy. She joins the orchestra in the rarely performed Bernstein Serenade, inspired by Plato’s Symposium, five discussions of the nature and qualities of love (each one of them evoked in one of the work’s five movements).
