In Quebec, the kitchen is the central room of the house. It’s the most popular place for get-togethers, conversations and even parties, hence the well-known expression, “kitchen party!” The Stewart Museum is presenting the exhibition Craving for Design: Kitchen design from the 18th century to tomorrow. This first temporary exhibition since the Museum reopened last August explores the origin and evolution of domestic kitchens in North America. Despite developments and the passage of time, little has changed in the way of design, form and use. Materials and energy sources, however, have evolved considerably. What does the kitchen of the future have in store?
