To open the 2012-2013 season, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal is offering a masterly narrative ballet by the celebrated Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián. Adapted from an ancient Japanese folk tale, Kaguyahime–The Moon Princess tells the story of a princess who descends from the sky, and whose beauty provokes rivalry and war among men. East meets West in a physically and emotionally demanding fusion of dance and music that unites the dancers of Les Grands Ballets with a spirited score by the great Japanese composer Maki Ishii, performed live by the drum ensemble Kodo and Gagaku repertory musicians.
