Leading a dazzling career since her Grand Prize at the Montreal International Musical Competition in 2002, Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman revisits the OSM in the spellbinding Nuits d’été by Hector Berlioz. A true jack of all trades, both a composer and pianist, Bramwell Tovey is in his fourteenth season with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. It was while he served as music director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra that Winter Poems had its premiere, in 1994. The movements sketched by Glenn Buhr are inspired by the view he had of frozen landscapes from Winnipeg’s tallest buildings and the contrasting frantic pace of the city. Finally, Tovey conducts the Symphony No. 4 by Ralph Vaughan Williams, one of the great names in the British orchestral repertoire.
