Overview

OSM conductor in residence Nathan Brock first leads the Orchestra in Edge of the World, a 1946 work by John Weinzweg that uses Inuit folk music for inspiration. Dvorák himself took inspiration from Native American songs in creating themes for the Symphony “From the New World,” beyond any doubt his most renowned work. Brian Manker, principal cello with the OSM since 1999, performs Victor Herbert’s Second Cello Concerto. Herbert, himself a conductor and cellist, premiered the concerto in 1894 and inspired Dvorák to compose one in turn.
