The violinist Hilary Hahn performs Prokofiev’s First Concerto, which fascinated the violinist Joseph Szigeti. French conductor Stéphane Denève, music director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and principal conductor, beginning with the 2011-2012 season, of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, has also included in the program the suite from Prokofiev’s Love for Three Oranges, an opera based on a play by Carlo Gozzi, and Debussy’s La Mer, a true symphony by the composer. Finally, the OSM reprises Ana Sokolovic’s Concerto for Orchestra, a work premiered in April 2007 and played on their cross-Canada tour.
