From the end of the 18th century until the 1950s, the Québec almanac was by far the most popular publication (after religious scripture). An absolute treasure-trove of good advice and tips, it played a primordial role in the promotion and distribution of Québécois literature as well as in protecting the French language. Series such as the People’s Almanac, the Family Almanac and the French Language Almanac distributed 40 000, if not 100 000, copies and landed in almost all households within the province.
