Overview

This garden is the last green space of a 150 acres property named: “Terre-de-la-Providence ». This land was ceded in 1730 to the Religious Hospitallers by the Basset brothers, in exchange for their pension until their passing. The nuns used it for agriculture and livestock grazing as well as the operation of a quarry and a garden culture. When the Hôtel-Dieu left Old-Montréal, this land became the site of a new monastery and a new hospital and the garden served to feed the Congregation and the sick.
