One of the perks of being a Montreal Insider blogger is that I get to discover all the city’s hidden secrets and overlooked treasures. The Delta Centre-Ville is one such gem. The iconic building has always stood at the crossroads of Downtown, Old Montreal and up-and-coming Griffintown, but as a Montrealer I’d somehow never checked it out before…

Well, now I have. I discovered the Tour de Ville, a unique revolving restaurant that sits atop the 30 floors of the 711-room hotel. It’s open on Friday and Saturday evenings for elaborate, themed buffet dinners (these days the focus is on Italy), and for Sunday brunch– a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. If you’re not familiar with the rotating concept, the circular dining room makes a complete 360-degree spin in about 60 minutes, making it an ideal place to take a tour of the city while chowing down. And don’t worry, it goes very, very slowly. To the northwest you’ll see Mount Royal and downtown skyscrapers, and as you swing around you’ll be able to view all the big attractions, including Habitat 67, the Casino, Old Port and the St-Lawrence River.

At night, the vista is particularly romantic. I recommend asking for one of the six circular booths where you and your special someone can enjoy a private tête-à-tête while a breathtaking panorama glitters before you. On the night I was there, it was a full moon– and I almost felt as if our table was the centre of the universe. If you’re going all out, I also suggest one of the fabulous two-story, New York loft-style suites that have awe-inspiring floor-to-ceiling windows.

Back to Earth, the Delta Centre-Ville is also walking distance to the Bell Centre, shopping central on Ste-Catherine Street/downtown (think big name retailers and choice department stores), as well as St-Paul Street in the Old Montreal where you’ll find sophisticated art galleries, charming cafés, trendy bars, and contemporary clothing boutiques. Chinatown is also a leisurely stroll away on a nice day. When the weather is less than perfect, the hotel is also connected to the Underground City, and, thus, the Train Station and Metro public transit system.
