When I enter a cooking-themed bookstore, I feel like a kid in a candy store: so many ingredients to explore, so many mouth-watering recipes to try, so many chefs to discover! Montréal has one of the sweetest: Appetite for Books.
Located in Westmount, Montréal’s very posh neighborhood, it’s right next to Miyamoto, my favorite Japanese grocery store, and Fournil, an exquisite artisan bakery. As a foodie, I could lose myself for hours on end just on that street corner!
Opened in 2005 by Jonathan Cheung, Appetite for Books is more than a store. It also offers cooking classes in its inviting kitchen, where Jonathan cooks four recipes from any given cookbook in front of a small group. But the focus is on offering the best selection of books: celebrity cookbooks, rare first edition books, and haute cuisine publications like the new international edition of Apicius, featuring articles about emulsions and French pâtissier Pierre Hermé. Special orders and book signings are also on the menu. Bad boy chef Anthony Bourdain was a recent guest.
