  • MONTREAL'S SNOW VILLAGE TAKES OVER PARC JEAN-DRAPEAU

    Posted by

Until March 31, Parc Jean Drapeau will be home to Montreal’s most wonderfully wintery attraction, the Snow Village. In fact, the Snow Village is an hommage to the city itself, boasting icy reproductions of Montreal’s building and monuments, not to mention a hotel, restaurant, bar, convention centre, chapel and, fittingly, a whole bunch of igloos. An obvious must-see for locals and tourists alike. To make reservations, visit the Snow Village website or call (514) 788-2181.

  • A-TRAK DJS MONTREAL'S IGLOOFEST

    Posted by

A full day of snowfall did not deter thousands of Montrealers and tourists alike from showing up for the kickoff of Igloofest, which continues until January 28. People showed up in their best winter wear, explored the fest’s many fun and frosty features, and, of course, danced the night away to Montreal expat A-Trak. There’s plenty more to come, so make sure that this is the year you figure out what all the fuss is about.

  • NEW INSTALLATIONS LIGHT UP QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES

    Posted by

With our short winter days in Montreal, who couldn’t use a little light therapy? Luminothérapie (“Light therapy”), a series of interactive light shows in the Quartier des Spectacles, uses the city as its canvas and turns the area into one big gallery. At Place Émilie-Gamelin’s Éclats de verre, you’ll find a field of deconstructed stained-glass windows controlled (by you) via two spring-mounted cubes, while over at Place Pasteur you’ll find 12 different takes on illuminating the UQAM bell tower. Near the St-Laurent metro station is Forêt Forêt, a modern birch forest filled with the sound of your voice, while last, but certainly not least, is the amazing Nuage de givre, which is made up over 5000 containers filled with 100,000 water droplets, which create a light show which changes based on the day’s weather. Nuage de givre is open until February 2, the rest until February 26, 2012.

  • MONTREAL BUZZ 2011: A YEAR IN REVIEW

    Posted by

Over the course of 2011, we produced a series of videos in an attempt to document all the amazing things that were happening in Montreal. From festivals to food to gay montreal, from things to see to things to do, we were there. Check out all of the videos on Tourisme Montreal’s Youtube channel. As editor of this blog, I’d like to take a moment to thank our totally boss bloggers and our amazing cameraman Guillaume Langlois, who shot and edited all of these videos. See you all in 2012!

  • HOLIDAYS IN MONTREAL

    Posted by

The holiday season is special everywhere but, though we’re a bit biased here at the Montreal Buzz, we’re pretty sure it doesn’t get much more special than this. From skating on the The Quays Skating Rink to the wonderful Christmas village found at the Old Montreal Extravaganza Festival, from Mile End’s Noël dans le Parc to shopping on St-Denis, McGill & Sainte-Catherine, and finally the wonderful night sky artistry of TELUS Fire On Ice, if this video doesn’t put you in the festive spirit then you’re probably a grinch. But you’re not, so enjoy.

  • M FOR MONTREAL 2011

    Posted by

Another great M for Montreal has just wrapped up and we got to the opportunity to see everyone from up-and-comers like Karim Ouellet to locals-done-great like Karkwa. M for MTL continues to be both a way for local bands to gain international exposure and for audiences to see a million (my estimate) bands in a couple days. Though 2011 still has plenty of great concerts on the way, our next big music fest here in Montreal is January’s Igloofest. See you there.

  • SLEEK WINTER CHIC IN MONTREAL'S SNOW VILLAGE

    Posted by

Starting January 6, Montreal’s Parc Jean Drapeau will be blessed with a magically stylish winter wonderland known as the Snow Village. For our friends from warmer climates: yes, stylish winter wonderlands are possible. Montreal is, after all, a city that holds one of its coolest festivals, Igloofest, in January. And since this village boasts a hotel, restaurant and bar among many other icy delights, I’d strongly consider cancelling that trip south and booking a ticket to come get down up north… … More

  • STEAK AND SCOTCH AT LA QUEUE DE CHEVAL

    Posted by

We’ve got far more accomplished food bloggers here at the Montreal Buzz, but when I saw that there was an event featuring a Single Malt Scotch ambassador at La Queue de Cheval, one of Montreal’s premiere steakhouses, I did what any editor worth their salt would do: assign the story to myself…

  • SOCIETY FOR ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY (SAT)

    Posted by

The SAT, or Society for Arts and Technology, is one of Montreal’s most dynamic and innovative spaces. Home to everything from cultural happenings to DJ nights (including many of the Mutek festival events over the years), it’s an impressive venue with a tech-centered, cutting-edge mandate. What they’ve added recently speaks directly to this point: the Foodlab, a guerilla kitchen with an eye towards experimentation, and the Satosphere, a 360-degree immersive environment filled with projectors and over 150 speakers. We sent our cameraman to give you a sneak peak but make sure you check it out for yourself. Society for Arts and Technology, 1201 Saint-Laurent, (514) 844-2033

  • POUTINE: HOW TO MAKE IT AND WHERE TO FIND IT IN MONTREAL

    Posted by

Poutine is a mix of french fries, gravy and cheese that has become, along with Smoked Meat and Bagels, one of the dishes most closely associated with Montreal. As such, the notion of who invented it and where you’ll find the city’s best version is still up for debate… … More
