Montreal knows good beer. Some could even argue that it’s the lifeblood of the city. So much so, that Montreal has a five day event to honour this delicious liquid called the Mondial de la Bière (Montreal Beer Festival). The 2014 edition takes place June 11-15 at the Palais des congrès…
The Mondial de la Bière will take place both inside the Palais des congrès, and outside on the Esplanade, allowing you to soak in the sun while sampling the best brews and food from around the globe. The Beer festivities take place Wednesday (June 11) to Saturday (June 14) from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and then on Sunday (June 15) from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For those coming in from out of town, the Intercontinental Hotel is offering a special group rate for Mondial de la Bière which is available here.
The festival is packed with beer and food kiosks from around the world for your drinking and eating pleasure. Many local breweries will be featuring their delicious beer concoctions like the Maple Cream and Chocolate Stout from Brutopia, Rhubarb-Grapefruit stout and Rose-Hibiscus from Dieu du Ciel, and La Griffintown from Brasseur de Montreal. Check out the full list of exhibitors here.
It’s a bad idea to drink on an empty stomach, so the Montreal Beer Fest is also a festival of gastronomy! The “Sorties Flaveurs” brings some of the finest restaurants to the fest to feature menu creations featuring beer. Participating restaurants for the 2014 edition includes l’Assommoir Notre-Dame, la Brasserie T, Kitchen Galerie Poisson, Osco Brasserie Restaurant, Renard Artisan Bistro, Le Renoir, Toqué!, Vargas Steakhouse and Sushi Vices & Versa. There will also be a special gastronomical evening called “Flaveurs Bieres et Caprices” on Thursday, June 12 at 6 PM at the InterContinental Hotel. Tickets are $105 and include a unique tasting menu prepared by chef Mathieu Saunier paired with the finest beers from around the globe. Find out more details here.
This beer festival is massively popular, and big line-ups are certain. Don’t let the lines kill your buzz by ordering tasting coupons in advance. Admission to the actual event is free, however tasting coupons are $1.00 each. The cost of one 3-4 ounce tasting is around 2 – 6 coupons, depending on how fancy the beer is.
