Bodies…The Exhibition just opened this past weekend in Montreal and runs until January 15. Described as “the science inside you,” this incredible touring exhibition of human bodies that have been dissected and preserved is currently showing at the Montreal Exhibition Centre, located on the 5th floor of the Eaton Centre. If you haven’t seen this unique and highly unusual exhibit before, now’s your chance. I’ve been before, and I must say, it really is something you have to experience for yourself….
If you haven’t found the time to take in this incredibly unique adventure through the stuff inside your body, you’re in increasingly rare company. At this point, more than 15 million people from New York to London, and Barcelona to Prague already have since Bodies…The Exhibition began touring the globe.
It all sounds a bit macabre and it certainly is, but in the best way possible. Through a series of different galleries, visitors can take a peek at what really goes on inside these incredibly complex machines that carry us around all day. You get a chance to see the inter-connected systems in the body — skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory and circulatory — in minute detail. Using a procedure known as ‘plastination,’ human tissue is treated, hardened and preserved by liquid silicone rubber right down to the cellular level. But don’t worry, this is the least boring science I’ve seen in a while. It’s a fascinating examination of the human body from the inside out.
The exhibit is open 7 days a week, with extended hours Thursday through Sunday until 10 p.m. My insider tip for you is to check the Montreal website for updates, because towards the end of the exhibit, they often extend the viewing hours much later into the night. So if you’re looking for something creepily educational to add your night out in Montreal (and who isn’t?), this might be just the thing for you.
