There is nothing quite like getting a great shave or trim, and Montrealers travel far and wide to get the full treatment by one of the city’s most beloved barbers, Ménick, whose Le Salon Barbier Ménick (Ménick’s Barbershop) has been a Montréal institution for over 56 years.

Ménick is also known widely as the Sportsmen’s Barber because local sports stars are among his regulars, and his barbershop is a sports museum: the walls are covered with photos of current and former Montréal Canadiens, former Montréal Expos and Quebec celebrities, as well as artifacts from the old Montréal Forum. The place is a temple to sport. In fact, Ménick is so well-known, when out-of-towners like Hulk Hogan and Chuck Norris are in town, they prefer to go to Ménick’s Barbershop.

What keeps Ménick going after all these years is, he recently told La Presse newspaper, “the people’s recognition, and to see the big names come to my salon, like (Canadiens legends) Guy Lafleur, Réjean Houle, etc. My job pleases me. It is here that I get all that I need.”

Patrons also get all they need at Ménick’s Barbershop, located at 1960 Rue Masson in the Montréal neighborhood of Rosemont. In the summer months, consider riding a bixi bike. In the winter months, the #45 bus from Métro Papineau will get you within walking distance. Ménick’s Barbershop is open seven days a week. For more info, call 514-598-0467.
