Carmen Carrera is a stunning woman. She’s one of the first contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race to come out as transgender. It’s hard to believe that she was actually born a he. For “Do Your Thing in MTL” she did a pop up burlesque show under the famous Boules Roses in the heart of Montreal’s Gay Village with local troop Speakeasy Burlesque! The video is about a a confused person, ashamed and afraid to be themselves. But with a little help from some friends, the cloak is torn away and Carmen Carrera is born! She’s confident, sexy, and exactly who she was meant to be…
In her interview she talks about starting to identify as transgender, her new life in front of the camera, and Montreal’s super sexy Gay Village! Or as she likes to describe it: “It’s an everything Village. It was freedom.” Carmen Carrera has made appearances on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Cake Boss, and What Would You Do? She’s definitely caused some controversy, (we had to talk her into putting biggest pasties on,) but that’s why we love her.
Carmen Carrera is an inspiration to anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable in their own skin, and is one of the first transgender role models to go mainstream. She has broken down the boundaries of gender, and has raised awareness for the trans community. Well Carmen, we think you look fabulous! That’s why she’s always welcome back to Montreal to do her thing! Find out more about Speakeasy Burlesque here.
