  • MONTREAL FOOD FAIR: SAVEURS & TENTATIONS

    Posted by

Visiting and local foodies are in luck: from August 12-16 Montreal is hosting an all-new trade show dedicated to local food. It’s called Saveurs & Tentations, which is French for “Flavours and Temptations,” so you can’t say you haven’t been warned. It promises to be one delicious event. Plus, it’s free.

Presented in collaboration with Slowfood Montreal, this event takes place on the pier of the historic Old Port and will feature some 80 exhibitors offering a taste of Quebec gastronomy. Twenty dollars gets you 20 samples of fine cheeses, locally raised meat, wine, beer, cider, spirits, heirloom fruits and vegetables, sweet treats… I think I could eat twenty samples of the cheeses alone…

And for those who also enjoy food on the intellectual level, there will be conferences, workshops and culinary demonstrations by well-known Montréal chefs, like Jérôme Ferrer from Europea.

Here’s a tip for a lovely night out: For $50, on Saturday night, you can enjoy a spit-roast lamb dinner called méchoui. In addition to this amazing taste of Quebec tradition, you’ll also be in a prime spot to watch the final night of Montreal’s International Fireworks Competition (honouring the 25th anniversary of Cirque du Soleil). You should reserve now, since there are only 150 tickets available. Call 514-277-3477, extension 21.

As for me, I’ll definitely be checking out just about everything there. So stay tuned on Twitter for news about my favourite discoveries.

The Montréal Buzz posted a photo:	There's something magical about a city that lives below a mountain and it's difficult to express why that is...there's something about Mont Royal and how it watches over Montreal as if its duty is to protect the city day and night. It's also so profound how you can be entrenched in cosmopolitan life and minutes later be surrounded by nature...and those clouds; there's no clouds like the ones over Montreal--surreal and oh so beautiful. The Montréal Buzz posted a photo:	I was in Montreal last winter (February) just after the death of one of my parents. I really needed to get out of Toronto at that time, to reflect, and to surround myself with new stimuli. It was very cold during the visit, but I spent a lot of time walking around anyway, taking photos, going to galleries, and visiting restaurants with old friends. This shot is on Sherbrooke, just west of the Main. I've posted this before, in a flickr pool called "It can't be more Montreal than this". I like this image because it looks like it's very cold out, and yet there are people moving about in what I think is one of the country's most charming cities. Taking the most beautiful place in Montreal, the Old Port, and using it as a backdrop to Montreal's other beautiful feature: the people!
