MEG makes Montréal a high place of emerging culture with a mix of international A-listers and local rising talents.
Montreal’s MEG festival is meant for making new musical discoveries: hear local and international indie-rock, hip hop and electronic music at some of the city’s best-loved venues this July 24 to August 2…
After 16 years, MEG, also known as the Montreal Electronic Groove festival, consistently creates a high-energy environment for new and established artists, enticing music lovers with eclectic concert line-ups at affordable ticket and pass prices. This year’s festival focuses on venues located on St-Laurent Boulevard, aka The Main, packing multiple shows into each night, all within walking distance of each other. Opening night alone brings the pop-influenced singer-songwriter rock of L’Indice, Navet Confit and Pif Paf Hangover to Divan Orange, the Québécois hip hop of Les Anticipateurs, The Posterz and J.u.D to Sala Rossa, and the dance-worthy electro of The Driver, Milton Clark and Pulses to Le Belmont.
That exciting mix of shows continues all week along St-Laurent. Keep your ears open for new music from Mozart’s Sister, Foxtrott and Propofol as they up the eclectic-pop ante on Friday, July 25 at Sala Rossa while American underground hip hop producers Sango and Eden Hagos keep Le Belmont hopping. On Saturday, experimental duo Essai Pas, Apigeon and more challenge categorization, while UK’s Rustie experiments with hip hop, and Montreal’s own Suuns, Technical Kidman and Seoul blend pop, rock and electro in brilliant ways at the SAT.
The festival joins forces with now-legendary outdoor dance party Piknic Electronik on Sunday, July 27, featuring an array of sunny sounds by local and international electronic producers ClekClekBoom, Woulg, Paul Trafford, Aleqs Notal, Manaré and French Fries. While on the evening of August 1, MEG pairs up with the Montreal First Peoples Festival for their annual free Électro-Choc concert at downtown’s Place des Festivals, with music from Chris Derksen, DJ Shub and French dance-music duo Acid Arab. In between, catch music from bass-heavy house duo The Gulf Stream, French electro hip hop group St.Lô, and many more artists.
MEG closes on August 2 with its signature MEG boat trip on the St-Lawrence River, this year with music until 3am from UK techno producer Benjamin Damage, a late-night set from Acid Arab, DJ Marty McFly and DJ AKTA. On top of it all, if you’re on a shopping spree downtown, take a break for free performances every day at 5pm, July 24 to August 1, at the Lacoste flagship store on Ste-Catherine – local electro producers Omni, DJ Cherry Cola, Truwayz, TomA Sound Factory, DJ MMF and more get everyone grooving to the MEG spirit and ready to rock all night.
