Montreal’s Sofitel Golden Mile is premiering a sensational series of photographs, showing French elegance at its best.  The era of haute couture, the moments when models wore the clothes with powerful panache  - and the designers behind the times are on show in gorgeous photographs at the Sofitel on Sherbrooke Street.  Black and white images are as alluring as the moody colour photos.  All are for sale.  $1,700- 50,000, from Galerie Polka.

One photo I love is of Karl Lagerfeld, his black umbrella shielding him from any errant white snowflake, against an almost sepia-toned background of yet another charming chateau.  Then there is Yves St. Laurent, peeking out from behind heavy, red velvet curtains.  The series will be shown in Sofitel properties around the world.  All are editions, so in case one is sold in, say, Roma, you could always grab one before it gets snapped up in Berlin – or Montreal!  Take the time to have a look when you are in town.
