For the Love of Boobs

Posted on November 16th, 2009 by .

Around the world, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and every year, Montreal PR Queen,MARIE-ANNIK BOISVERT, organizes a truly stellar, and definitely original, breast cancer benefit called BREAST YOURSELF, where 500 women get together to celebrate life, love, friendship and solidarity. The result? One of the most enjoyable events I’ve attended this year! Witness the awesomeness for yourself in these PICS
Now you may wonder…why the heck is Tamy talking to us about the past when we’re in mid-November? Well! Breast cancer is a life-long struggle, and therefore the issue is relevant all year long!
Whether I’m travelling or at home, I always try to make responsible choices by encouraging businesses that are both ethical and socially conscious. For me, one of the most pleasant surprises of Breast Yourself was to see so many local Montreal businesses coming together for a good cause.
So I wanted to take this opportunity to hand out major brownie points to some local hotspots. Some businesses are content with being cool, but these Montreal gems are cool AND socially involved! Definitely worth making a stop during your stay in Montreal!
LE VALLIER (restaurant)
Wtih decor inspired by the charm of the 1950’s, this little gem in Old Montreal feels like home and the food tastes like your mom’s cooking. Ideal for a relaxed dinner date or a meal with your family, some of their specialties include a comforting mac & cheese and shepherd’s pie made with duck. Yummy! 425 McGill Street, Montreal, tel: 514 842-2905
With two locations, one on Bernard Street in Mile End and a recently opened spot in Old Montreal, L’assomoir is a bar you absolutely must check out in the Montreal nightlife scene. It’s a cool place with a really original drink menu menu that reflects their love for the art of mixology. Great place to discover your new favourite cocktail! 112 Bernard Street W. Montreal, tel: 514 272-0777
I spoke to you about Le BATHROOM a few months ago, after I enjoyed the relaxing experience of floating in a circular tub filled with buoyant salt water, all alone in my own private room. Whoa! Did it ever feel amazing! You can have a solo soak or float with your loved one! READ ABOUT MY EXPEREINCE AT LE BATH ROOM RIGHT HERE. Fantastic Montreal spa on charming St Denis Street. 4137, St. Denis, Montreal,  tel: 514 842-6564
ESPACE PÉPIN (art & fashion boutique)
Every woman falls in love with Espace Pépin, a Montreal boutique in Old Montreal that serves as a gallery for painter Lisanne Pepin, and also happens to be one of my favourite shopping destinations. An absolute must for fashion, art and jewellery lovers alike. Unique to Montreal and amazing for gifts!  373 Place d’Youville, Montreal, tel: 514 844-0114
W HOTEL (hotel)
We all know the ‘W’ hotels. You never go wrong by staying at the ‘Dubs,’ as I like to call it. In addition to the quality of the service and the beautiful rooms, what I like the most about the Montreal W is the location —  it’s super convenient! The subway station is literally across the street and the hotel itself is only steps away from both downtown and Old Montreal. The Wunderbar on the main floor is a popular spot for hanging out or getting your groove on! 901 Square Victoria, Montreal, tel: 514 395-3127
LIO FRATELLI (nails)
Another great Montreal business I’ve written about before is Lio Fratelli, in chic Outremont. This is place I go to have my nails done because the service and the quality of the mani/pedi is impeccable. I guarantee you’ll feel like a pampered princess indeed! 1137 Laurier Avenue W. Outremont, tel: 514 272-6226
LA GUILDE CULINAIRE (cooking classes)
My colleague and Montreal foodie, KATERINE ROLLET, showed me this spot when she took me there to broaden my horizons and open myself up to the joys of cooking. It’s a cool place to go with your girlfriends if you want to attend a cooking class with a real chef that will give you all the tips you need to impress your guests in the kitchen. We drank wine and made springrolls… and as you’ll see in the VIDEO, mine looked more like a Shish Taouk. I still need to work on that one…. 6381 St. Laurent Blvd., Montreal, tel: 514 750-6050
On this note, when’s the last time you examined your boobies? At Breast Yourself, I was surprised to learn you’re supposed to start doing this in your twenties! HERE’S HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE!
Love to you all,

Tamy xoxo
