The sun? it just makes our bodies look tanner. The humidity? It just gives us a sexy glistening sheen. Oh look, more excuses to take our shirts off and dance. We must be gay, and it must be August in Montreal.

We take our shirts off, paint our bodies, cheer, consume drinks at record-setting levels and then have a big parade celebrating ourselves. Stanley Cup Playoffs? No, it’s Gay Pride! Fierté Montreal Pride 2011 is definitely the dominant event of August, but there will many different activities to partake in for the entire month. Most, if not all of these events include some level of dancing, and a thumping base beat.

FIERTE MONTREAL PRIDE 2011: 3011 – ODYSSEY OF THE FUTURE: The programming at Fierte Montreal Pride is as exciting and diverse as a multicolored unicorn. From Tuesday August 9th to Sunday August 14th, the entire week is packed with fun, educational, and memory making things to do:

[Les anciennes odeurs by Michel Tremblay]: Presented at Place des Arts, this is a staging by Rita Lafountaine of Les anciennes odeurs. The show is sensual and raw, and is promised to be especially powerful in the intimate space of Studio-theatre at Place-des-Arts. Tickets are $25 and showtimes are once a day the entire week of pride. (Tuesday – Friday: 20:00, Saturday: 14:00, Sunday: 20:00)

[Cafe des Arts – August 11 – Cafe des Arts /Place Emilie Gamelin]: Jean-Pierre Pérusse is hosting an official opening event where 7 artists who have contributed to the fight for LGBT rights will showcase some of their work. Artists Yunus Chkirate, Charlotte Greenwood, Olivier Lefebvre, Vincent Cyr, Michel Bazinet, Bastien, Gus Mainville, Cesar Ochoa will all present their work. It’s free too!

[Yoga Mega-session – August 13 – Scene TD/Place Emilie Gamelin]: Canada’s largest yoga event is a celebration of movement, music and meditation led by yoga master Line Trépanier. The message is an entire community for a healthy lifestyle! Arrive early because they’re expecting over 2,000 participants and you’ll want a nice space to do your downward dog and salute to the sun. Maybe I should have my own yoga event with my own yoga posses I just invented:  Backwards Turtle, Limber Ninja, and Rolling Bean Sprout. There will be so much namaste going on.

[Community Day – August 13 – Rue St. Catherine/ Berri – Papineau]

Community Day is one of my favourite days of Gay Pride. Organizations, community groups, sports teams and more set up booths along St. Catherine and you can wander between them meeting new people, expanding your opportunities, and learning new things about your community and Montreal.

[The Parade / T Dance / Closing – August 14 – Rene Levesque between Guy and Sanguinet Street]

Join in with all of Montreal is a massive and fun filled parade! The parade is presented by Viagra, so it’s sure to get your fire going. Head over to the Mega T-Dance  at Scene TD at Place Emilie-Gamelin after to dance the night away leading up to the closing show at 22:30. This is the big event, so dress to impress and have the best night ever!

After a successful 2010 run hosted by the incredible Daniel Baylis, it’s back for 2011 with 6 fierce new finalists. Queer of the Year 2011 is hosted by New York based comedienne Mikala Bierma. The finalists come from around the world, right here in Canada all the way to Portugal! These finalists will go head to head against each other as the complete task testing their Personality, Talent, Healthy Lifestyle, Community Spirit and Sex Appeal. The one with the most “Q” will win it all! They’ll take home $5,000 and the glory of winning. Make sure to follow and vote the entire week of Pride. Queer of the Year Facebook & Twitter. Let the Fiercest Queer Win!

[Twist Party – August 13 – Koko Bar / Opus Hotel]: The official Twist Party will feature Stefane Lippe, Paskal & Vesselinov, and Ian Keys. Presale tickets are $10. 10 Sherbrooke W.

[Official Brunch, Parade, Twist Encore, Twist Party]: Twist presents the official brunch at Restaurant La Planete, then head to the Parade to enjoy the celebrations! Twist Encore will be that night at Club Parking.

The one and only Princess of Pop will be taking her Femme Fatale show to Montreal on August 11th. I thought her Circus Tour was nothing short of spectacular, and reports are saying the the Femme Fatale show is even better. Britney is back and better than ever. She’s no longer a girl, but a full fledged woman and is flaunting it with all she’s got. Tickets are still available from $40 – $120. Lady GaGa wants your attention, but Britney Spears just gets it. Fact. It’s Britney, bitch!

August is so action packed that it would be impossible to list every single event. Check out the programming and event pages below for all the August actives.
