  • DESIGNER SHOPPING : HELMER BOUTIQUE

    Posted by

Montreal designer HELMER JOSEPH could not have thought of a better time to open his brand new boutique on St-Laurent Boulevard.
With Montreal Fashion Week recently coming to an end, fashionistas from around the world will be able to put their hands on his incredible designs; fresh OFF THE RUNWAY!
Uncluttered and uplifting, Helmer’s boutique is reminiscent of a young Soho. As I was staring at the haute couture pieces displayed in the back of the shop and getting ready to snap pictures of the HAND-MADE ALPACA SWEATERS carefully folded in the front –an absolute must for my winter wardrobe! — I was pleasantly surprised to see Helmer himself walk in.
Always so generous with his time, he kindly accepted to pose for me next to the divine 3-season jacket that had been tickling my fancy the minute I walked in. Seriously, look at the bottom of the COAT! That, my friend, is detail calculated to perfection. Just like the 100% COTTON CHEMISES that are carefully adorned with hand-made fabric rings.
Maria, who nicely welcomed me at the boutique, tried one on. “With a shirt like this, you certainly don’t need a blazer!” she says.
That’s because Helmer’s elegant and precise work is more than ready-to-wear. What it should be called, is art-to-wear, or in French, art-à-porter.
Yet, what’s even more remarkable is that in an industry of ferocious competition, Helmer is reuniting the works of various Montreal designers under his own roof. Denis Gagnon, Bodybag by Jude, Cluc, and jewellery by HARAKIRIand CHARLOTTE HOSTEN are all available for purchase.
And it doesn’t stop there. The exclusive boutique also serves as a gallery for fashion photographer, Jimmy Hamelin, whose images of Montreal models and landscapes are currently exposed.
In short, a definite must if you are shopping in Montreal and are looking for exclusive and elegant designs, made from the hands of the master of volumes, class and textures himself!
