If you want to know where to find Montreal’s food trucks and what they’re serving, this guide to food trucks and street food in Montreal is for you…

Last year, a handful of food trucks roamed the streets of Montreal all summer long, parking mainly at the many outdoor festivals and events that took place around Montreal. Most of last year’s trucks – including crowd favourites Grumman78, Nouveau Palais, Pas d’cochon dans mon salon and Monsieur Crémeux – are already back on the streets this season.

In addition, the city’s new pilot program has granted permits to a range of new food trucks and seven days a week, from June 20 to September 29, from 7am to 10pm, up to 17 of those food trucks will rotate around the following 9 pre-determined spots in order to offer Montrealers a diversified gastronomic experience. Here’s a sampling of the new trucks we’re very excited to try:

Meatball Montreal: If you find yourself craving meat, then this very carnivorous truck is for you. Meatball Montreal will be roaming the streets of Montreal and dishing out meatballs that will satisfy even the toughest of Italian mamas.

Camion Au Pied de Cochon: We expect nothing less but greasy, gourmet fare from the people of Au Pied de Cochon and their brand new truck, which will be dispensing sweet and savoury doughnuts, the latter used as the “bread” in a pork sandwich. Expect the foie gras poutine to make an appearance at some point as well.

Nomade SO6: Gourmet sausages is the name of the game with the Nomade S06 truck. All natural, high end ingredients are used to create unusual flavour combinations like smoked meat or peanut and cilantro. Dig into one of their fresh salads as well, to balance it all out.

Le TukTuk: A tuktuk is a motorized tricycle used as taxis in Thailand. This TukTuk will be used to taxi delicious Thai food into your bellies, from green papaya salads to Pad Thais. You’re in good hands with chef Max at the helm. He’s been cooking since he was 15, first in his native Thailand and now in Montreal.

P.A. & Gargantua: Grilled cheese sandwiches are the ultimate comfort food and P.A. & Gargantua’s mission is to offer some ooey gooey favourites made with Île-aux-grues cheddar and a slew of gourmet toppings ranging from bacon to slow-cooked brisket.

Fous Truck: We love a truck that will satisfy our sweet tooth and this one surely will. Fous Truck comes from the Fous Desserts pastry people, famous for their croissants and baked goods, which will now be coming to you across Montreal.

Saigon je me souviens: Bahn Mi, spring rolls and noodles are some of the Vietnamese specialties coming out of this truck. If you are looking for some healthier street food this summer, then look for the Saigon red truck.

Landry & Filles: Landry & Filles will be serving traditional food and a few new classics cooked up by chef Marc Landry who has honed his skills in some of Montreal’s best kitchens. Expect stuffed ployes, a type of pancake or crêpe, as well as sloppy joes, fried chicken and whoopie pies.

Chaud Dogs: These ain’t your regular Oscar Meyer wieners. Chaud Dogs creates hand-crafted gourmet top dogs, made with high end, local and seasonal ingredients. Their delicious corn dog is an absolute must, for both the homemade breading and the sausage!

On top of Just for Laughs, the Omnivore Festival and the great Movie Nights in the Park series (July 16 at Parc Jean-Duceppe, July 23 at Parc Lafond, July 30 at Parc Maisonneuve, August 6 at Parc Petite-Italie), here are some events where you’ll find Montreal’s food trucks will also be present at a few other events this summer:

First Fridays: Every first Friday of the month until October 4, you will find 20 or so food trucks gathered at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, 4-11PM.

L’autre Marché Angus: Every Thursday from June 20 to September 26, l’Autre Marché Angus welcomes 3 different food trucks, which will be on site from 11AM. Grumman ’78, Dispatch Coffee and La Desserte are scheduled to be there for the launch on June 20.

The Lachine Canal: The Canal lunches, every day from 11:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M, will feature several food trucks rotating around 4 spots along the Canal: the intersection of De La Commune and Mills, Bassin Peel, Îlot des écluses and Îlot de Charlevoix. To find out which trucks will be present on any specific day, check out the ARRQ’s Facebook page. Ce soir, le Canal will take place every Thursday and Saturday, 4:30-8:30PM, at the same spots.

Place Émilie-Gamelin: Place Émilie-Gamelin was last year’s success story when it comes to street food. Downtown workers and tourists alike flocked to the many food trucks parked there for lunch every day. This year is no different. From June 20 to September 30, Place Émilie Gamelin will welcome several food trucks, from Monday to Friday, 11AM-2PM.

The Old Port: Montreal’s Old Port is already home to a few more stationary food trucks such as Muvbox, Porchetta and Mister Felix and Mr Norton. This summer will see the addition of a Dic Ann’s food truck dispensing their famous burgers.

That’s a lot to remember, so let’s make this simple: here’s a Google Map of where the trucks will be this summer and a Montreal Food Trucks Twitter list (trucks usually tweet their location), the Streetfood Mtl Website and Streetfood Mtl App, and finally the Association des restaurateurs de rue du Québec website and its handy monthly schedule of ARRQ events.
