Summer is off to a spanking start with sunny days and sexy nights in Montreal. From Gurl Talk, a new night for queer ladies, to the first queer bar in Mile End, The Royal Phoenix—the city’s about to burst at the seams. All this in preparation for the August extravaganza that is Montreal Pride, aka la Fierté…
By the way, summer in Montreal is now officially the best place to be. According to a survey by Lonely Planet, Montreal is the 3rd most awesome city to spend your summer. Now go on children, spread those wild oats.
July 8: Up Yours! for Rock Camp for girls at Cabaret Playhouse, 5656 Parc, 10 pm. Girls deserve to rock too. A special all-girl summer camp for teens is in its third year and getting huge support from the queer community, hosting parties to raise funds for the camp that takes place in August. Go support the Rock Camp by paying waht you can for the dance party with DJs Lynne T and Aleks C.
July 10 & July 24: Always wanted to silkscreen but never learned how? Want to spend an afternoon in a really queer collective who happen to rent a house in Montreal’s St-Henri neighbourhood? You’re in luck! These busy, crafty queers have organized some sessions for those who want to learn the art of silkscreen printing on clothing or paper. It’s free, just pay for your materials. Screenprinting 101 is at Ste Emilie Skillshare, 3942 Ste Emilie, 1-4pm.
July 16: GAYBASH PRESENTS ★WANNABE★: Gaybash is the all-inclusive, underground dance party created and hosted by locals scensters Sally and Tyler. Your party promoters are your hosts and the newest (and first ever) queer bar in Mile End is definitely filled with energy and a solid community vibe. At THE ROYAL PHOENIX, 5788 St-Laurent, 10:30 pm.
July 21: July POMPe with DJs Lynne T, Bear, Jonny Bonny Rock & Aleks C: A rockin` monthly dance night for queers of all styles, scents and genders, the July edition is sure to make you sweat. I’m especially looking forward to Lynne T, who Pop Montreal bills as the DJ “guaranteed to make you dance like a slut.” Espaces des Arts, 9 Ste. Catherine East, 10:30 pm.
July 25 – 31: Diversé/Cité has loads of things for you lesbians out there, but a few to note are DJ Ana Paula from Rio de Janeiro (July 30), Lady Miss Kier (July 31), and a Catherine Deneuve movie under the stars at Lafontaine Park (July 25). Happy Pride!
July 31: CKUT presents the MEG BOAT PARTY! Start a dance-a-thon with Toxic Avenger on the fun boat. Meg Montreal, the Montreal Electronic Groove festival of events, is putting on a fancy, dancy boat party. Get ready to sweat and brag to all your friends that YOU ARE ON A BOAT.
