Old Montreal’s former Hôtel XIXe Siècle got a very exciting face-lift last April. Not only did its new owner, Georges Marciano (yes yes, Marciano of Guess!Jeans fame), replaced the furniture and linens to upgrade the room’s comfort, but he made the bold decision to make the elegant «Second Empire » building the permanent host of his personal Pop Art art collection.
Guests and visitors can now admire original work by Robert Indianna, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein as well as a remarkable piece by Jaume Plensa, « sitting » – literally – in the hotel’s lobby. Contemporary works by other masters such as Botero, Chagall and Rauschenberg, to name a few, are also hung throughout the hotel’s corridors. At the time of our visit, most rooms were occupied, so we couldn’t get access to the larger suites. But from what we’ve been told, they’re little museums in their own right.
