Euro Deli is one of those special places in Montreal that is packed with customers from 9 in the morning ‘til midnight. This cafeteria-style Italian restaurant on St. Laurent is one of the hippest places on the lower main. It’s a really chill atmosphere, with a cool mixed crowd of loyal customers devoted the science of the perfect slice and serious espresso.
Check out why this particular Italian restaurant has enjoyed such a loyal following for over 27 years, and sip your espresso on the sun-drenched stoop, affectionately known as ‘the beach.’
This Montreal institution has been in the same location for over 27 years and there’s a reason why. They’ve been serving up classic Italian dishes at cafeteria prices and believe me, there’s something for everyone! Homemade minestrone, lasagne, tortellini, antipasti and incredible calzone smothered in a choice of tomato or succulent meat sauce. The eggplant parmigiana I had the last time I was there literally melted in my mouth and the sauce was perfectly balanced — not too acidic and not too sweet. And, like every respectable Italian eatery, they serve an excellent espresso with a perfect crema that coats the spoon and revs your engine so you’re ready for more cruising and strolling up St. Laurent.
Euro Deli is a very popular place to stop and grab a bite after late-night outings on St. Laurent. Open until 4 a.m. on the weekends, don’t be tempted by the fastfood joints on the Main and their 99¢ pizza. For $2 more, you’ll get the best slice in town — a super thin slice with a sumptuous tomato sauce that will rock your world!
I realize that this is more Tamy’s area of expertise or maybe Daniel’s, nevertheless, Euro Deli’s clientele is cool and hip and many singles will find it a great place to people watch and maybe cruise for some action as well. The proof is in the pudding (or maybe the pizza) — even the Shoestring blogger met her husband at Euro Deli.
Insider tip: Euro Deli has an amazing stoop, probably one of the most popular places to sit down and have a slice on the Main and watch people passing by. Regulars call it ‘the beach’ as it is one of the rare sunny spots on this section of St. Laurent Boulevard. There are always people camped out on the stoop, just hanging out and taking advantage of the people-watching opportunities. If you see a free spot, make a move! Take a seat and enjoy sipping your cappuccino while you take in the moving scenery sauntering past on St. Laurent Blvd. and consider yourself a local.
