If you want to tackle everything that is happening in Montréal this weekend, then we hope you brought your palm pilot*. You’re going to need some sort of technical magic to keep you on schedule. Our suggestion: DON’T PANIC. Instead, choose 3 or 4 things and keep it fun.
Here are nine recommendations on what is hot and happening in Montréal this weekend!
[car racing] GRAND PRIX – Thousands of F1 fans and thrill-seekers will take over the streets of Montréal this weekend. Crescent Street will be shut down, as will Boulevard Saint Laurent. Basically EVERYWHERE will be a party. And we support partying.
[concert] MEMORIES OF THE 50’S – Michel Comeau interprets great the great ones: Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Yves Montand, Charles Trenet, Michael Bublé and many more in a show recalling the crooners of then and now. Feel like a randy teenager again!
[restaurant] BYBLOS – If you need a break from the bustle of Grand Prix, nip up to the quiet, tree-lined charm of Laurier Street East. Byblos is the preferred place for brunch for many locals, featuring Persian dishes and great décor. Try the spinach omlette.
[indie theater] FRINGE FEST – After 20 years of fun and debauchery, the locally raised, theatre festival still maintains its beloved place in the hearts of Montréalers. Many shows to discover. Boisterous-ism encouraged.
[gay party] GAYBASH – A superb reason to dress up in your most slutty outfit and get elegantly wasted, while helping to celebrate the birthday of one of Montréal’s most darling personalities, DJ B’UGO.
[music festival] FRANCOFOLIES – Reflecting the thriving French-speaking music world, this 20-year-old festival is a MUST SEE for anyone with a penchant for international song. Many free outdoor shows. Profitez!
[history] MCCORD MUSEUM – Montreal’s McCord Museum, loved by young and old alike for its walks through Canadian history, hosts a show featuring the Cirque du Soleil, in tribute to Totem, the current Cirque show in Montreal.
[parties] GRAND PRIX ACTION – There are a TON of hot car-racin’-related festivities happening in the city this weekend. This is a list of the best of ‘em. And as stated above – we support partying.
[festival] TRANSAMÉRIQUES – A powerful blast of theatre and dance from seventeen cities, a dozen countries and four continents will sweep through Montréal as the fourth edition of the Festival TransAmériques shakes up the city. It’s the days of the festival! Get out there and bust a move!
