Montreal Shopping: Fall Fashion Trends 2009

Fall has always been my favourite time of the year to for all things fashion. It’s the season of layers, textures and endless accessories! So guess what I’ve been doing for the past few weeks? Yes ma’am: I shopped till I dropped.

I’ve walked for hours, checking out all the shops – from the big department stores to the little boutiques. But not for me! Oh no! All this hard work shopping was to save you time, let you in the hottest fall trends and tell you exactly where to find them in Montreal! So here are some of my favourite fall essentials…

Rock Glam Girl

First-class ladies such as Angelina Jolie, seen above in a sexy Michael Kors leather dress (1) at the premiere of Inglorious Bastards, are rocking the Rock Glam style full force this fall.

Leather pants and leather leggings are my favourite items of the season. Montreal designers Denis Gagnon and Rad Hourani (3) have mastered the look, and you can find their collections at HOLT RENFREW for Denis and REBORN for Rad (see below for addresses).

Studs also come complement the look as seen in this nice leather jacket (2) I found at ZARA.

Checkered Shirts and Skirts

Plaid shirts have been a growing trend for the past two seasons, and they aren’t going anywhere, apart from maybe moving down to your pants or skirts.

I was happy to find out that one of my beloved stores, UNICORN, carries some pretty hot and original checkered fashion including this 100% silk checkered skirt by Montreal designer Valérie Dumaine (5), this WESC plaid shirt (4) and this lovely – also Montreal-designed –EVE GRAVEL CHECKERED CHEMISE.

Lace

For the ladies who think leather pants are not for them, you might want to try adding a bit of lace to your wardrobe.

I bought this beautiful CREAM LACE DRESS at Zara for only $69 (it also comes in black) and paired with nice wool leggings, light brown knee-high leather boots and a nice jacket and scarf, it makes for the perfect autumn look.

I also found this amazingly elegant ROBERT RODRIGUEZ LACE SKIRT at DAVID LESAGE, which could work really well for the office with a nice black blazer and silk top.

Bold Shoulders

Love it or hate hate it, shoulder pads are back!

Rihanna (6) has been the advocate of shoulders pads in all of her most recent red carpet appearances, but if this look seems too bold for you, why not try this Tara Jarmon blazer (7) which I also found at David Lesage. They recently opened boutique in downtown Montreal’s Cours Mont-Royal shopping centre.

This store offers a great selection of classic pieces with a twist for women in their 20s, 30s or 40s. So, if you like to flaunt a unique, trendy and classic look that’s not too avant-garde or over-the-top, this boutique is a must for you!

Gloves

Whether they bring class, elegance or edginess to your outfit, a nice pair of gloves is the accessory you need to add a little touch of uniqueness to your fall wardrobe.

And for gloves, my favourite place to shop is SIMONS. I particularly enjoy these COLOURFUL LEATHER GLOVES, which come in pink and purple for $68 a pair. You might also fall for the MICHAEL KORS or PORTOLANO gloves, which also happen to be the perfect item to top off that Rock Glam look.
