How are your New Year’s resolutions coming along? Has your gym membership been abused as much as you thought it would before the holidays? If not, get on the treadmill because Poutine Week in Montreal starts soon…

From the same gluttonous minds that birthed Montreal’s Burger Week, and heads of Food Week Montreal, comes their new spawn of caloric-scale-busting proportions, Poutine Week. From February 1 to 7, 30 restaurants around Montreal will put their poutiniest foot forward in a bid to claim bragging rights of Montreal’s “best poutine”.  Remixing the classic French fries and gravy topped with cheese curds was the mandate of Na’eem Adam – organizer of this endeavor.

“We have so many awesome restaurants in Montreal with talented chefs of different culinary backgrounds, so I thought it would be fun to have everyone put their own spin on this traditional Quebecois dish,” say Adam. “Burger week was such a great success that we thought that we could add another week-long event that people would be as equally enthusiastic about.”  There’s no doubt that poutine is the ultimate choice of mid-winter Quebec comfort food, perfect to sooth the soul and stick to your ribs.

The roster features incredibly inspired, and creative poutines – Namos’ kima meat sauce and kefalotiri poutine and Fabergé’s breakfast poutine of caramelized onions and peppers topped with hollandaise sauce and a fried egg.  Not to be disregarded, the straight forward working man’s poutine of Quebec cheese curds and omnious brown gravy from the Montreal institution Decarie Hot Dog will also be represented as well as “Le Montrealais” from Poutineville – an ode to Montreal, a poutine topped with Montreal smoked meat and a fried pickle.

Not all of Poutine Week festivities include pounding back poutines that have local cardiologists smacking their lips. Special events are slated that include celebrity poutine tasting parties (Montreal Alouettes’ Shea Emry, Radio personalities Ric Peterson and Rebecca Makonnen, Olympian Tracy Little), as well as a flash mob style workout session to be announced sometime during the week.

All poutines on the official participating restaurant list are listed at $10 a piece with sampler plates available at $5.

    I have tried sending this message to your POUTINE WEEk contact us portion of the contact, and when I get to the security code, part I keep getting an error message. Anyhow, thsi greek couple have a small restaurant on 237 rue Notre Dame Ouest near the OLD PORT, they makes poutine and sell it by the truck load, to tourists..except, no one know it .. Hand cut fries, homemade gravy, from scratch, and creamy cheese curds. I can’t believe NO ONE has discovered this gem of a resto, I go there JUST FOR THE POUTINE.They make excellent pancakes but the poutine is amazing…
