Montréal is many things: An urban playground, an open-air dance floor, a gourmet tasting table – but what many people don’t realize is that the city is also a living, breathing gallery of stunning works of public art of every imaginable type and medium.

Now everyone can discover the wealth of art that adorns our sidewalks, buildings and public spaces with the launch of the Art public Montréal web site. The new website brings together over 1,000 accessible works of public art created by over 500 professional artists from Québec and around the globe.

Site_Art_PublicVisitors can search for specific works or artists, vote for their favourites and explore Montréal’s public art through self-guided discovery tours.

The Art public Montréal project represents a partnership of the city’s key stakeholders who came together to launch this monumental initiative. Partners in the first phase of the project were the National Bank, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDP), the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), the University Centre McGill (MUHC) health, École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Hydro Québec, Ivanhoe Cambridge, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Place des Arts (PDA), the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), Concordia University, Université de Montréal (UdeM), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), McGill University and the Ville de Montréal (Bureau d’art public), who all agreed to pool together their works of public art.

The Art public Montréal project is an initiative of the Ville de Montréal, in collaboration with Tourisme Montreal and the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications as part of the Plan de développement du tourisme culturel 2014-2017.
