Nascar: Racing Back to Montreal

Posted on August 25th, 2009 by .

With no F-1 this summer, Montreal car racing fans are abuzz with the return of NASCAR in Montreal on Friday August 28-30 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. A city that loves cars and partying, Montreal is the perfect place to experience this awesome and unique event…

Since 2007, the NASCAR Nationwide Series has been roaring through Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the track on Parc Jean-Drappeau named after the legendary Canadian driver. Gilles is also the father of Formula One and NASCAR driver Jacques Villeneuve (one-time owner of Newtown restaurant). Villeneuve, Quebec’s motorsports superstar, will be racing this year along with big names like Patrick Carpentier and Carl Edwards.

From 9am on Friday morning straight through to Sunday evening, there are qualifying races and other events leading up to the main event on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, which incidentally is the same track that was used for Montreal’s F-1 race (rumored to be returning to Montreal in 2010). The official website has some great tips for travel plans and what to do the day of the race. If you’re looking to party, St-Laurent Street is always a great place to start in Montreal but Crescent Street will be definitely be party head quarters for the weekend, with live music, DJs, display cars, autograph sessions and more going on from Thursday-Saturday, starting at 11am every morning.
