In Montreal, you can even party in museums. That’s right, on the first Friday night of every month, the MACM (Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal ) opens its doors to a new way of experiencing its sleek interior and impressive contemporary art collection. Called the Vendredi Nocturne series, the premise is a simple but inspired one: serve high-end cocktails, let people peruse their exhibits (check Daviel’s post on the Claude Tousignant retrospective) at their leisure and bring in some of Montréal’s best bands to provide a soundtrack to the whole thing.

I checked out this month’s installment, which featured the incredible instrumental outfit Pawa Up First (Pawa Up First). They played a killer show downstairs that was simultaneously broadcast on screens throughout the MACM.

May 1st is Plants and Animals ( Plants and Animals), a band that I recently caught up with as they worked on their new album. Check back here for more about this Juno-nominated Montréal band.
