QUEER MTL: 10 Alternative Party Places in Montreal

Montreal is a cultural quilt made up of different people from many different places. While much of Montreal’s gay scene takes place in the Village, there’s a whole alternative queer scene scattered throughout the Downtown, Plateau, Old Port, and Mile End. If you’re looking for a queer-friendly party place in Montreal, check out these venues…

Hot off the heels of last year’s successful Burger Week Montreal, the 2013 edition returns with great anticipation and finds itself satiating the appetites of burger-heads in four cities across the nation…

2013 was the 20th edition of the Mondial de la Biere, Montreal’s premier event for beer lovers, held at the Palais des Congres. SAINT PATRICK’S DAY 2013 IN MONTREAL

Montreal’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations take it up a notch this year as the annual parade and general shenanigans happen to coincide with the real St-Pats this Sunday, March 17. Get in on the excitement – some of it family friendly, some of it less so – starting with the parade at noon on Sainte-Catherine Street at Fort and raucously moving east to Philips Square over the next three hours…

THE MONTREAL BREWPUB EXPERIENCE WITH LOCAL MONTREAL TOURS

They say that the best way to get to know a city is to drink up the local experiences and feast your eyes on the sights. Actually, I’m not sure anyone has said that, but based on Local Montreal’s tours, people really should start. Local Montreal offers informal walking tours that focus on Montreal’s distinct culture, history and gastronomy. They provide a much needed, authentic, non touristy glimpse into the heart of the city. We teamed up with Local Montreal for their Brewpub Experience tour where we strolled around the plateau, sampled some artisanal beers and became acquainted with some of the city’s best kept secrets.

BAR HOPPING ON AVENUE MONT ROYAL

Mont Royal Avenue starts from Avenue du Parc and crosses the Plateau borough from west to east all the way to Frontenac and beyond. The stretch centred around St. Denis and Mont Royal Metro Station is my favourite part, filled with boutiques, bars, and restaurants. On these still warm fall afternoons, what a great place to relax on a terrace and have a cocktail or two after work…

MONTREAL OYSTERFEST: SHUCKERS, CHEFS, BANDS AND WINE

Montreal’s not a place you’d associate with premium oysters and seriously good shuckers? Well, think again… and if you’re in town on Sunday, September 11, prepare to be pleasantly suprised at the third annual Montreal Oysterfest. The nearest sea may be hundreds of miles away but this is, after all, a food-crazed town where locals have a special weakness for all things served on crushed ice, from the insanely good snowcrab legs at Garde Manger to the exquisite urchins and mussels sourced locally and served at the Brasserie T! (when in season) – not to mention the top-notch oysters at Joe Beef and L’Orignal…

7 GREAT ROOFTOP PATIOS IN MONTREAL

You say patio, we say terrasse. Whatever you call it, when the weather is nice the place to be is under the open sky. And what’s better than a terrasse in Montreal? Why, a rooftop terrasse in Montreal! Here are some of my faves.
