  • SOCIETY FOR ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY (SAT)

    Posted by

The SAT, or Society for Arts and Technology, is one of Montreal’s most dynamic and innovative spaces. Home to everything from cultural happenings to DJ nights (including many of the Mutek festival events over the years), it’s an impressive venue with a tech-centered, cutting-edge mandate. What they’ve added recently speaks directly to this point: the Foodlab, a guerilla kitchen with an eye towards experimentation, and the Satosphere, a 360-degree immersive environment filled with projectors and over 150 speakers. We sent our cameraman to give you a sneak peak but make sure you check it out for yourself. Society for Arts and Technology, 1201 Saint-Laurent, (514) 844-2033

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: OCTOBER 28 TO NOVEMBER 3

    Posted by

At the centre of the week ahead is Montreal’s favourite holiday: Halloween! Some have futilely argued with me that Halloween isn’t actually a holiday; they are wrong. Just like any other holiday worth its salt, Halloween has traditional costumes (witches, the living dead, sexy kitties), special dishes (candy), and time-honoured rituals (treat or treating, dance parties, making out with masked strangers). And this week, Halloween is celebrated from Friday night to Monday night! And in between, catch some live music, theatre, dance, a new movie and life-altering art… … More

  • MONTREAL'S BLACK & BLUE 2011

    Posted by

While the dress code may have been “black and blue”, skin seemed to be the dominant garment of choice at BlackJack21: Black & Blue 2011. 6000 ravers made the pilgrimage to their version of a holy site that this year found itself back at the Olympic Stadium… … More

  • OSHEAGA ARTS: KID KOALA AT THE BIOSPHERE

    Posted by

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in a place where nature and culture meet in wild abandon and the music never stops, the massive outdoor music and arts festival Osheaga has you covered. On top of that, Osheaga amps up its oft-overshadowed Arts component during the month of July by inviting Montreal favourite Kid Koala to install his immersive audio-visual creation, Space Cadet, in the Biosphere. Has there ever been a better pairing of artist and venue? … More

  • LESBIAN MONTREAL: JUNE

    Posted by

Summer is off to its cavalier start in good old Montreal. Montreal is a must-have-bike kind of a city in the summer, so even if you’re in town for just a bit, take a Bixi out to your next outing. We’ve got a fancy indie flea market where the cutest of the cutest will surely be, all sorts of nakedness at the Fringe Fest and Cirque du Soleil’s highly anticipated Totem… … More

  • GAY MONTREAL: MAY

    Posted by

The month of May rhymes with Gay. Unfortunately, this prohibits me from creating a clever portmanteau such as last month’s hit “Gaypril”. Whatever April, May is sunny and beautiful so we don’t need to port any sort of manteau. Anyways, here are ways you can maximize your five gay senses in Montreal this May… … More

The window looks directly up Avenue McGill College, to McGill campus and the mountain. I lived in Montreal during my time at the university, but this weekend was the first time my three cousins had been to the beautiful city. We spent the entire weekend walking up and down St. Denis, eating La Banquise's poutine in Parc La Fontaine, and napping in Parc Jeanne-Mance. But that first view of the city after our arrival at the hotel was definitely a moment that left my newbie cousins in awe of Montreal.
